David BrothertonDavid Brotherton is the founder and president of Brotherton Strategies, a Seattle-based communications firm serving a mix of mission-driven, socially-responsible corporate, philanthropic and non-profit clients.

David is a communicator of conscience and practitioner with principles who has spent 20 years in public affairs and public relations framing complex issues, communicating corporate values and articulating persuasive messages. Through writing, research, evaluation, strategic planning and media relations, Brotherton Strategies helps its clients advance business objectives, foster positive social change, and influence public opinion.

Before founding his own firm, David was director of communications for the Marguerite Casey Foundation, a grantmaker supporting the economic and social empowerment of low-income families and communities nationwide. He previously served as vice president of public affairs for Imagio | J. Walter Thompson; as director of public relations for RealNetworks; and as a senior writer and account executive with the Gogerty Stark Marriott agency.

David began his career in Washington, DC, where he worked first as a Congressional staffer and later a political reporter. He has also served on numerous political campaigns at the federal, state and local levels.

David earned his bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR and did his masters work in journalism at the University of Oregon. He currently serves on the boards of the Communications Leadership Institute and 826 Seattle, the region’s only center dedicated to helping young people improve their expository and creative writing skills.

Kirsten MabryKirsten Mabry is a consultant with expertise in corporate and consumer public relations. She focuses on media relations, campaign strategy, public education initiatives and event coordination.

Whether working with a smaller non-profit organization or a Fortune 500 company, Kirsten becomes an integral part of any team with a can-do attitude, and a passion for positive change and social responsibility. For the past eight years, Kirsten has used her skills to help organizations, causes and communities with grassroots outreach, policy tracking and media relations. She has also worked on environmental issues, and is experienced in crisis communications and corporate reputation management.

Kirsten’s prior agency experience includes work for MS&L Worldwide, where she supported clients in the clean technology field and created an award-winning public education campaign for an international non-profit association. She also worked with Public Strategies, establishing and growing multiple statewide non-profit women’s conferences and servicing several global brand clients.

Kirsten graduated from the University of Texas and has a marketing degree from the McCombs School of Business.

Cynthia ScheidererCynthia Scheiderer is a strategist, writer, researcher, educator, and facilitator who has worked with foundations, technology companies, and nonprofits. Cynthia helps organizations understand, influence, and engage the public by asking great questions and skillfully including multiple perspectives and interests.

Working with foundations and nonprofits over the past eight years, she has researched and developed outreach initiatives that include grassroots organizing, technology, storytelling, media, and policy components. She is a former director of public affairs and communications at Casey Family Programs in Seattle, Washington, where she built a community outreach function, led the start-up of a national consumer advocacy group, and managed grants focused on constituency organizing. Prior to this, Cynthia spent seven years in the high-tech industry, including five years at Adobe Systems, during which she managed teams and initiatives in customer support, knowledge management, education, training, business development, and consulting.

Cynthia earned her bachelor's degree in communications from California State University, Fullerton, and her master's degree in adult education and training from Seattle University. She is proud to serve on the board of directors for Foster Care Alumni of America and Equal Rights Washington.

Alice SkiptonAlice Skipton is a skilled writer, interviewer, researcher, project manager and strategist. As a consultant for Brotherton Strategies, she brings over a decade of experience supporting for profits, non-profits, foundations and educational institutions in their communications efforts, from storytelling to branding.

Recently, Alice worked as part of the writing team to support the web site related to the PBS documentary: This Emotional Life. The content-rich site focuses on topics highlighted in the series, such as the importance of early attachment, PTSD, stress, grief, autism, bullying, resilience and the pursuit of happiness.

Before becoming a consultant, Alice worked for Casey Family Programs, the largest national foundation focused solely on improving the lives of youth in foster care. For Casey, she helped tell the foster care story in a number of ways including the creation of an award-winning short film.

Alice holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Penn State University. Her ability to speak, read and write in Spanish has added value and fostered relationships in her work.
